Cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic work by the dentist who already knows your teeth.

Whitening, bonding, veneers and clear aligners, by Dr. Pelletier and Dr. Marsh, who are general dentists. Not a cosmetic studio, and not a smile gallery.

The first appointment is a conversation about what you want to change and what each option will and will not do for your teeth. Results vary, and we will say so for yours.

  • An honest conversation before any option is recommended
  • Whitening, bonding, veneers and clear aligners explained with their limits
  • A written estimate, like everything else here
  • General dentists, said plainly; complex cases referred
  • No before-and-after photographs presented as real patients

The options

Four things we do, and what each is for.

The honest version. If something on this list is not right for your teeth, the dentist will say so at the conversation.

OptionGood forNot for
Professional whiteningTeeth that have yellowed with coffee, tea, wine or age. Done in the office or with custom trays at home.Crowns, veneers and fillings, which do not change colour. Grey or banded stains, which lighten less.
BondingA chipped corner, a small gap, a tooth slightly shorter than its neighbour. Resin shaped onto the tooth in one visit.Large changes, heavy biting edges, or anyone who wants it to last as long as porcelain.
VeneersThin porcelain shells over the front of teeth to change shape, colour or alignment of several teeth at once.Teeth with little enamel, heavy grinding, or a problem that aligners would fix without reshaping the tooth.
Clear alignersMild to moderate crowding or spacing in teens and adults who will wear them as instructed.Bite problems and significant movement, which are referred to an orthodontist.

Results vary from person to person and depend on the exam. No outcome is guaranteed, and nothing here is a promise about your teeth.

The conversation first

What you want, what your teeth can do, and the gap between.

The first cosmetic appointment is a conversation and an exam, not a treatment. Dr. Pelletier asks what bothers you, looks at the teeth, the gums and the bite, and tells you which option fits, which does not, and what it will not change.

Sometimes the answer is a cleaning and whitening. Sometimes it is a referral to an orthodontist because aligners will not do what you are hoping. You leave with a written estimate for whatever we do recommend, and nothing is booked at the desk.

Said plainly

What a general dentist does and does not do here.

We do

Whitening, bonding, veneers and clear aligners for mild to moderate cases, by two general dentists with the training to do them.

We refer

Orthodontics beyond mild aligner cases, gum reshaping, and full mouth rehabilitation go to people who do only that. We tell you at the conversation.

We do not

Present before-and-after photographs as real patients, promise a result, or sell a "smile makeover" package.

Wondering whether whitening would even work on your teeth? Call and ask. The conversation is the first step, and it is free of pressure.

Before you book

Questions people ask about cosmetic work.

Anything else, call (207) 555-0164.

Are you cosmetic specialists?

No. Cosmetic dentistry is not a recognised dental specialty, and both of our dentists are general dentists. We say that plainly. For work beyond our scope we refer to an orthodontist or prosthodontist.

Does whitening work on everyone?

No. It works best on yellowed natural teeth and does nothing to crowns, veneers or fillings. Grey stains lighten less. The dentist will tell you honestly what to expect for your teeth.

How long do veneers last?

It depends on the teeth, the bite and habits like grinding, so we do not quote a number on this page. The dentist will tell you what to expect for yours and what would shorten it.

Can you straighten my teeth with aligners?

For mild to moderate crowding or spacing, often yes. Bite problems and larger movements are referred to an orthodontist, and we say so at the first conversation rather than after.

Will I see before-and-after photos?

Not on this site, because this is a concept practice and we do not present images as real patients. In the room, the dentist can show you what each option does on models and in general terms.

Next step

Start with the conversation. Decide after.
